Monday was another french holiday, Pentacost, which means no school for me! So I had another 'jour ferie', an expression I have grown to know very well.

Stephen and I were invited to go hike The Via Ferrata with Anne-Genevieve and her famille. Philipe, her husband, picked us up on campus, we then picked her up at work. She works as a 'sage femme' - basically a labor and delivery doctor. She wanted to take us into her work and show us the "salle de couchement' - the delivery room. It was really cool!
From there we headed up to the mountains. When we arrived, it quickly dawned on us that we had been there before, twice in fact: once in the fall with Yoland, and once in the winter, for a Rondonee de Ski.
This time though, we were heading off in harnesses and helmets to do the Via Ferrata, which is basically a hike where you clip in to cables and climb up rocks...kind of like rock climbing for dummies.
The trail wasn't officially open either. That made things a little bit more exciting. For example, there was a rather high bridge we had to cross. However, the last little part of it was looped up around the wires, the same wires that were suspending the bridge. We had to do some tricky manoeuvering, but we all made it safely to the other side.
On the other side, we began climbing up the rock face. There were rebar holds that made for an easy ascent, all the way up. At the top we ate some bisuits and chocolate and began the descent. Going down was simple, an easy trail. After the hike they invited us to eat crepes with them.

They had this cool crepe iron that goes in the middle of the table. Then everyone is able to make their own crepe. We put chevre, roquefort, salmon, basilic, citron...confiture, chocolate, honey...all the good stuff. It was quite the french day, a hike in the alps and a meal of crepes!
