She's goin' to the chapel...

But first, we're stopping at the beach.

(...and the Spa.)

This weekend kicked off the pre-wedding celebrations of Laura and Brad. The wedding is in April, on earth day in fact. So there will be many reasons to celebrate and a plethora of parties the weekend of the wedding. In order to fit in all the celebrations, we had to start early.
The party began at the spa, Glen Ivy. We motored out of Loma Linda early on Sabbath, towards the coast, eagerly anticipating warm mineral waters, healthy sunshine and cleansing mud scrubs. The saline pool softened our skin and the ice bath accelerated our circulation. We spent a good hour in the mud, caking it all over ourselves. Ironically, the mud made me feel tough. But I was just at the spa, with a bunch of girls.

Lavender wafted through the mud cave as a thick stream of fresh water washed the mud off our skin, supposedly taking all the toxins and stressful things with it. Cafe Soleil fed our relaxed tummies, with healthy, cleansing foods like spinach and walnuts, goat cheese and lemonade. After lunch we grabbed InStyle and GlamourGirl, towels and tanning oil and

stretched our relaxed bodies out in the sunshine. I grabbed the Canon g12 too, conditions were too perfect for picture taking.

Following a nap and girly  conversation, hot sunshine, lemon and lots of diet coke, we hopped in the shower, put our faces on and draped pretty dresses on ourselves and took more pictures.
Girls out on the town, we followed the setting sun to the coast, excited to spend a fashionable evening celebrating Laura, laughing about woman hood and talking seriously about lady-like things, ha. Our destination for the evening was a condo that overlooked the ocean. We went straight up to the rooftop porch, marveled at the location, the stars and the warm January air.

The evening progressed to presents, stories, books, games and waves of girly giggles and ridiculous dares.  We settled in for the night with a movie and nibbles of cheesecake. Sweet, sweet time together.

It was later than bedtime but we had things to talk about. The night went on and we kept talking, discussing life, notable experiences, romance, growing pains, cheese cake, bathing suits and all other things completely feminine and pink. Sleep came quick however, and the sun crept through the white, beach shutters in less than what felt like, the blink of an eye.
I woke up to calm air and expansive skies, rimmed with turquoise salty water. I had to get up quick, out on the sand and walk -- just walk. Breathe the salty air, feel the sun and marvel at Sunday mornings in sunny Southern California. Wow. Paddle boarders were out, spear fisherman were diving and families were strolling, coffee in hand. Rejuvenating.

Breakfast was pancakes, laden with fresh berries and cream. The beach kept calling, so we donned our polka dots and bandeaus and staked out a spot in the sand. We took pictures and laughed, as only best friends can do.

From the beach house, we stopped in at fashion island, prolonging the mini vacation as long as possible. We gawked at the maserati and lambourghini, but snickered at the old men driving them -- girls will be girls but goodness, what a contrast. We found french food at Le Pain Quotidien, did a little window shopping and then made the quick drive home.

Congratulations to Laura. The celebrations have only just begun.
